Rim of the World School District Closes Classes Due to COVID-19

On Thursday March 18th2020 the Rim of the World School District officially closed down due to the Coronavirus and is projected to reopen on May 4th2020.  The staff was instructed to remove all their personal belongings on Thursday March 18 and have been instructed to not return.  There may be an extension to school closure based upon decisions and recommendations from Federal, State or County Agencies.

Some of the events that have been canceled due to school closure are Student Art Show on March 26th, Wind Ensemble festival, Drum Major Boot Came and Jazz Band and Choir as well as all sporting events. PTA meetings, School Site Council meetings and all other functions from all schools will be curtailed, until further notice.

The California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASP) is an annual test that is give to students to measure their progress each year in the spring.  The state has applied for a waiver from the federal government and CAASPP tests will not be administered this year.

The College Board announced Friday, March 20ththat Advanced Placement testes scheduled for May 2020 would not take place in person. Students will be offered an at-home 45-minute version of the test.  For information go to https://apstudents.collegeboard.org/coronavirus-updatesto

When I asked Rim Superintended Michelle Murphy about graduation she responded by saying “Graduation will depend on the executive orders in place at that time. We would hope that our seniors can have the ceremony they deserve to have but public health and safety remain the priority”.

How will this ultimately affect Rim of the World School District we probably do not know, but we must remember that as our parents have told us and countless generations have said before them, it will all work out.
